I wonder what is stopping me from actually resigning. Citing the economy status as a reason seems like a weak reason, even to my ears.
But staying on is a painful choice. And if it is a choice that I’d selected, I shouldn’t complain about it. And if I do not want to stay on, then I should go. There’s only 2 scenarios here, no more!
But I think it is because I feel so uncertain whether the new company would be supportive towards me in my studies. Companies these days are out to fleece us poor employees, and suddenly doing overtime seems to be part of the work schedule.
They included after work hours and Saturdays when we are planning for deadlines, and conveniently ignore the fact that we are not paid for overtime work, and any extra hours are supposed to be an act of chivalry, not obligation.
They forgot that we have commitments outside work, and we have friends and family outside work. They forgot that we need rest between work before we drop dead from exhaustion.
However, maybe it is because I am jaded towards the general mindsets of employers, and know how pragmatic they are when it comes to exploiting employees.
Leaving this company is a good choice. But does that mean the next one would be better? Chances are, it will be from bad to worse, and I’d still have no control over my life.
