Movie : Flashpoint

I watched, in anticipation, of Donnie Yen's latest kung fu show to his name, Flashpoint.

Dubbed as the show where he had suffered the most injuries during the filming, I was expecting a show that would be more packed with actions.

Also, being a sucker for great choreographed scenes, it was disappointing to see how the director prefers the camera to pan around, following the movements of the fists closely, while the audience cannot see any of the kicks rendered, or the swift blocks by the elbow, and etc.

The storyline is very typical and simple, but at least it makes better sense, as compared to Invisible Target. Louis Koo plays a undercover cop who was discovered by the triad leaders that he was following, and Donnie Yen, the 'firecracker' cop, wants to protect Louis and his gf.

Nothing to rave about, but at least it is very clear cut.

Donnie Yen displayed a hybrid of martial arts in the show, but I still must say that the choreographed moves are not very impressive, save from some mid-air kicks, and rapid fists. But in comparison the Invisible Target, it is not half as interesting, and didnt had me sitting at the edge of my seat.

There's plenty of taewondo moves, and standard wu shu, and I thought I saw some kickboxing and wrestling as well, but sorry to say, it didnt make me want to stay awake through the show.

And, like in the attached image, Donnie is the one in charge of the fighting, and Louis the one being a injured cop. His character in the show is important, but his presence is much redundant. It might as well been Jay Chow standing there, since there's no acting seen from him in the show.

If you are approaching the cinema tomorrow and you still have a choice between Invisible Target and Flashpoint, I would still say, go for IT!
