Woo... Must blog some entries about ghosts while it's the ghost month!
I'd never seen a ghost before, not that I want to, but I'd experienced some weird encounters.
Once when I was in secondary school, we were engaging in some draggy team discussion, and obviously my mind wasnt on the topic. My classroom is on the fifth level, and it overlooks the soccer field.
Feeling extremely bored, I looked to my left, and out of the window. Our set of 4 tables were one aisle away from the windows. Suddenly I saw the window panes creak. The set of aluminum panes was originally 45 degrees open. It then opened up totally to 90 degrees, and then quickly slam shut!
(Ok not totally shut, but to the maximum close angle without engaging the lock mechanism.)
I turn my head totally to face the window directly, and then turn around to ask the classmates around the joined tables whether they saw that. They say they felt movements out of the corner of their eyes but they didnt see anything for sure.
The other two encounters I'm going to state next, happened together with xin, my secondary classmates of 4 years.
Both happened in the ladies in shopping malls, and both times we seems to be alone when we first entered the lavatory, at least, we didnt see anyone wandering around the sink area, maybe they are all in the cubicles.
In the first time, there are around 10 cubicles in 2 rows facing each other, with a narrow corridor in between. Usually in such a toilet configuration, the unwritten rule is that the queue will be lining up outside the corridor, and when one of the cubicles is vacated, the first in the line will then enter.
That particular day, there was no queue, so both of us wandered down the corridor between the cubicles. All the cubicle doors were shut except the very last one, so we made our way towards it. We've no idea whether the first few were occupied, but since we saw that there's one available, we decided to walk towards it.
So outside this cubicle's door, we were offering each other to use the cubicle first, and suddenly I pointed to the second last cubicle (which is nearer to me, which obviously mean xin is nearer to the far wall than me) and asked xin,
"Hey, do you think this cubicle is occupied?"
As if on cue, the toilet door swung slowly open, from its original door shut position to a fully opened position, and I could see for sure that no one is inside!!!
I looked at xin, and she me.
Willing myself not to utter a single sound, I pulled her out of the toilet with me.
And as we cant bear with the urgency to pee, and went to use the crowded and smelly mrt toilet.
But it is scary can? How come the cubicle door opened as though it is answering my question? And I have no idea why I asked that. It was all very spontaneous. I thought of it and I speak, without contemplating a second.
Eeeee.
The second time we had a toilet scare, was a weekday afternoon, during poly school holidays.
We both entered the deserted toilet, feeling glad that it was clean and dry, and it had been a long while since the earlier incident, so nothing much were on our mind.
This toilet configuration is a 6-cubicle row on the left of the door, and the mirror is directly opposite the cubicles.
5 or 6 strides behind us, was a young woman who was strolling into the toilet around the same time as we did.
As all the cubicle doors were opened, we know that we have 6 cubicles to choose from, and hence there's no further exchange between me and xin on who is to take which cubicle.
I turned and took the first one nearest to the door, and out of the corner of my eye, saw that xin walked a couple of steps more, and entered Cubicle #2. Once I closed my door, I heard xin slamming her cubicle door shut with such force that even my cubicle rattled.
I jokingly asked her if she's trying to tear down the structure? And she ignored me.
The first thing that came to mind was that xin didnt actually take Cubicle #2, and the other lady in the toilet with us took it, and I was scolding a stranger! So I kept quiet and finished with my peeing business.
When I stepped out of my cubicle, I turned to see that the lady was touching up her make up at the end of the toilet, beside the far wall (no, she looks perfectly normal) and only Cubicle #2 was still closed. Seconds later, xin emerged from Cubicle #2.
We washed our hands in silence. I wanted to ask her why didnt she reply to my question earlier and had me sounding like a fool muttering to myself. But thought it is not a good idea to say something so accusatory in front of a stranger. I waited till we both left the ladies and I checked with her.
Without replying me, the first thing she said to me was,
"It wasnt you who slammed the door just now right?"
I shook my head in bewilderment, because I thought it was her! She explained that she also felt it is not possible because she entered the toilet cubicle a second later than me, and she already saw me close my door by the time she stepped into the cubicle.
She didnt hear me draw the door open again to slam it shut (I didnt anyway) but she heard someone slamming the cubicle door shut so forcefully that her cubicle rattled.
And it came from her right hand side, meaning it was from Cubicle #1, where I was in!!!
Holy shit!
I confirmed with her that I didnt re-open and slam the door, and she sighed and said that she was sure that was the case, hence when I asked her whether I was trying to tear down the structure, she heard me but dont dare to reply me.
So in short, we were in 2 cubicles with a shared cubicle partition. But I heard slamming from her side, and she heard it from my side. So where did that actually happened?
Ewww...
Postnote:
Dont be silly, both of us are intelligent enough to distinguish our left and right easily, so xin absolutely didnt hear something from her left hand side and is deluded enough to re-orientate to claim it came from her right. Dont insult our intelligence, ya.
