After working on the stupid construction drawings for 2 weeks, I finally finished it yesterday evening. While there are bound to be changes here and there later (probably today even) I am just plain glad that at least one entire set is completed and ready to be printed.
It is different finishing it, showing to the client then make changes under revision 1, than to keep getting stuck at revision 0, changing repeatedly because the boss keeps changing her mind.
As much as I try to, it is impossible to keep up with her changes. I can do the drawings over the weekend, finishing it to 80%, then came back to office on monday to hear her tell me that she had changed the layout (again! for the 81371th times) and I have to redraw the drawings.
(I seldom edit drawings because I am not good at correction. I rather start afresh so that my mind is not influenced by the last drawing. Hence I redo work all the time.)
From 80%, my completion dropped to 50% or 60% upon a nonchalant decision of hers. Ok, maybe it isnt nonchalant, but I am angry ok! Give me a break.
Every time she said that, I would go silent, give her a blank look then forced myself to cheerfully ask her where's to be changed. I redo my work, and creep slowly to the 65% mark, then 70% mark, then 75% mark, then 80% mark and finally pushed myself a little bit more and finished up to 85%.
Just when I thought I have only 15% left for the next day, I called it a day and return home, then the next morning, while she is still not in even up to 11am, I pushed another 5% and gleefully looked forward to popping champagne when the last 10% is settled.
Then she came in to work and tell me, "I've changed layout."
*Cues thunder*
She is doing a lot of work herself, and I am not saying that she is dumping all the work on me. But because I am only taking instructions from her and assisting her on this project, sometimes it gets impossible to finish work because she cannot conclude on what she wants.
Try as I might, there's only so much prediction skills I have, and I cannot do much about her making changes every other hour when she work on her layout layers.
I still think that drawings should be done by the designer who designed it, but who am I to say anything? But no two designers can have the same mind to design a same project, because if there are two such persons, one of them neednt be around at all, for all designers are meant to be different.
Then how is it possible for me to input my design and match her design to a T at the same time?
Sigh. Ridiculous.
